The Situation.
This activity was designed as the centrepiece of Big Number Academy. The goal was to create a single experience that encourages curiosity, not correctness.
The Challenge
Make extremely large numbers understandable without teaching formal notation first.
This meant:
- Making the UI feel playful, not technical
- Avoiding long instructions
- Keeping visuals stable and smooth as values increase
What I implemented.
Simple controls with immediate feedback
Visual cues that reinforce scale
A resilient front-end implementation that stays responsive
The Outcome.
Children can experiment freely and build a feel for magnitude. The module also set patterns for how future activities should work.
